Sharp Stomach Pains

Stomach pain is a pain felt in the stomach. Obviously, there are several causes for it. Stomach pains can be caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It has a disease which occurs when the esophagus and the stomach linings are damaged due to low tolerance in acids which are usually found on fatty and spicy foods.  Some other causes are ulcers, appendicitis and gallstones. Stomach pain can be stress related.  The foods you ate may also be related to the stomach pain. Maybe you did not notice that the food you ate is already spoiled that’s why you feel pain in your stomach. Stomach pain may also be caused by overeating which can be treated by just waiting for the pain to subside. Stomach pain for children, or those that are food and stress related stomach pain can be treated easily. However, if you are suffering from constant or sharp stomach pains, it is better if you will consult a doctor to know the possible causes of your sharp stomach pains.  To give you more idea on stomach pains, here are the different types of sharp stomach pains.

The pain can be caused by several factors such as diarrhea, ulcer, appendicitis and indigestion. Your diet is the first to be considered when treating this type of stomach pain. Avoid spicy foods, coffee and other types of foods which may add to the burning sensation in the stomach. Smoking and drinking alcohol should also be avoided for they can also cause stomach pain. For treatment using medicines, an antacid will be of help to reduce and relieve the burning stomach pain. For burning stomach pains which happen at night, elevating the head for about seven to nine inches off the bed would help reduce the stomach pain. Burning sensation can also be caused by insufficient amount of lactase – a digestive enzyme. Lactase tablets would treat this burning sensation. However, if ever that the pain persists for more than a week and is already accompanied with blood in your stool, dizziness, nausea and vomiting with blood, go to the doctor and seek for medical help for this might be associated with ulcer or other diseases. Immediate treatment is needed to avoid complications and possible death if left untreated.

Stomach Pain on the Left Side

The stomach pain on the left side is usually caused by kidney problems, indigestion, stomach ulcer and appendicitis. If you are suffering from persisting sharp stomach pains in the left side, better see a doctor. Pain on the left side is sometimes the sign of a disease so seeing a doctor is important to prevent complications.

Severe Stomach Pain

The pain can be accompanied with vomiting, burning sensation, nausea and cramps. The most common causes for this are hernia, food poisoning or testicular torsion. Antacids and activated charcoal tablets would be of help to relieve the pain. Carbonated drinks, caffeine and foods high in fat should be avoided. Seek for medical help if the pain persists or worsens for proper treatment.

You can deal with stomach pains by yourself by taking medicines to relieve the pain but it is still better to consult a doctor if you are suffering from persisting sharp stomach pains for its proper treatment.
